Back in 1999, the Imperial Cancer Research Fund stated that one in every three people in Britain will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their life. With rapid medical advances the chances of survival from a major illness are improving but the consequences of suffering such an illness continue to be substantial and life-changing.
Critical illness insurance policies are designed to help you cope with the changes which will be necessary should you be diagnosed with a “qualifying medical condition”. Most policies will pay out following a diagnosis of heart disease, cancer, stroke, renal failure, paralysis, major organ transplant and coronary artery bypass surgery as well as a range of other conditions. There is normally a one-off tax free payment which is intended to assist you with costs, typically the need to adapt your home or car or maybe re-train for a different occupation. It’s not only the bread-winner that can benefit from this type of cover and you should take account of child care and housekeeping costs which would be involved should Mum be out of action.
Unfortunately, at a time when most people are suffering from the shock of learning that they have been diagnosed with a critical illness, they and their families may learn some additional disturbing news. The insurance industries latest figures show that, on average, around a quarter of all claims are rejected!
As soon as a claim is made, the insurance company will request a huge amount of information from your doctor. It’s quite likely that much of this information is not relevant to the illness for which the claim relates. The insurer is using this information to ascertain whether or not the insured has been completely truthful on the original insurance application form.
The reason for this is what the insurers call non-disclosure and if any medical information has been omitted, they can use this as grounds for refusing the claim.
It appears that the non-disclosure may not be related to the critical illness. Claims have been turned down for various reasons, including the case of a woman with breast cancer whose case was rejected because she hadn’t listed treatment for depression on the original proposal form.
The rejection rates are shown as follows:
Company % of rejected claims
Scottish Equitable Project 28%
Norwich Union 26%
Friends Provident 25%
Legal and General 22%
Bupa 21.5%
Skandia 21%
Prudential 20%
Standard Life 20%
Scottish Widows 18%
Scottish Provident 11%
Scottish Equitable Guardian 10%
Average
23.5%
Despite the insurers claim that these rejections are perfectly legal, the Law Commission appears to think differently. There has been a consultation document published recently and the Commission makes the statement “It is possible for an applicant to act reasonably and honestly and yet still fail to meet the duty of disclosure.” The conclusions of these consultations will be reported on as soon as they are available.
It is therefore extremely important that when applying for this very valuable form of insurance, you disclose all previous illnesses. It’s probable that if you have to claim, then your medical records will be thoroughly examined and if the insurers consider you omitted medical information, they may “throw out” the request.
Compare companies for the best rates. Read the small print. Spend some considerable time in listing medical conditions. Relax - it may never happen.

Some things are not what they use to be, and the feeling of having job security is one of those things that has changed dramatically in the last one or two decades. Though there are some who start with a company and remain there for the rest of their working days, this is something that is becoming a thing of the past.
Though it is not something that many look for, there are some that still wish for job security above all else. Many are happy to jump from job to job, but others want the security of knowing where their next paycheck is going to come from and when they are going to get it.
The number of those saying they feel they have job security is going way down, and this leaves many feeling uneasy about finances in general. Some might say that this makes them work harder and do better in their position, others say that some companies don’t really care about loyalty and that if they need to cut costs, it doesn’t matter who they cut.
I suppose there are both types of companies out there, but most can’t offer job security simply because they can’t afford to do so. A loss of job security for most means that something else has to happen. In order to feel secure, a smart worker who feels like they do not have the job security they need must have savings. This might mean cutting corners, but when you don’t know how long a job will last or if another will be waiting, it is important to have money socked away in the event that nothing else comes up right away. Having this might not offer security job wise, but it can mean a person can sleep easier at night. It’s important to stay up to date, if you don’t have enough time to read all the new business books published, you can read executive book summaries instead.
Part of the reason that job security is so low is because people don’t want to stay in one place anyway. I have a friend who is married to a man who has a new job each year. I fear one day he is going to run out of options while he is trying to find his true calling. You would think by the time someone is well into their thirties they would have found this by now, or they would have at least tried to find something with job security until they are struck by their “true calling”. People like him are making good positions disposable, and some companies are wary. I cant say I blame them.

Last year our company (that processes a lot of large medical images) was growing fast, it became obvious that we needed more bandwidth. Our T1 line just wasnt cutting it any longer (T1 bandwidth is only 1.5 megabits). We had to upgrade to something bigger .
As head of IT, I started renegotiating our current contract. Luckily our 1 year contract was almost over, so our company was in the position to look at different alternatives.
The most obvious answer would have been to change from a single t1 to a bonded T1. Nevertheless pretty soon that also would not be enough.
Our sales rep with this bandwidth provider (who will remain unidentified here) was glad to point me to a bigger and far more high-priced solution: a ds3 line (T3 line) with a capacity of 45 Mbps. Obviously that would be bandwidth enough taking our envisioned growth into consideration, it was possibly even way too much. And the cost per month was in the higher 4 digit figures, something my boss wasnt too happy with of course.
I found a new solution though. A new technology (or at least new to me) that can deliver bandwidth via an Ethernet port over phone lines, Ethernet over Copper. The pricing was superb; we were able to get a 10 meg port for less than a 3mb bonded t-1!
Another significant benefit of carrier ethernet bandwidth is the scalability. It is possible to add bandwidth by simply ordering more, in small incremental steps, even all the way up to a gigabit Ethernet circuit.
Be sure to shop around with several carriers and make sure you are aware of new technologies (or use a telecom consultant that is).

Any library is characterized by a dominating bookcase. books are safe and free from dirt and debris in a bookcase. Bookcases generally have flat compartments for keeping books. If you wish you can also have glass doors to blanket these books and show the spines of the books for simple citation.
attorneys have to read from several reference manuals for their practice. These volumes are expensive too and required to be kept convenient for a ready consultation.Barrister bookcases are designed with the same function of holding heavy reference manuals for attorneys. They are also known as lawyers bookcases and can be produced in oak wood, cherry wood in various endings and colors.
How did individuals store volumes when barrister bookcases did not exist?
Books were infrequent in the past, and thus there was no demand for a bookcase then. Books utilized to be written by hand in the past. They were placed in tiny containers by the wealthy people. It was the wealthy mans privilege to own and carry books as they were not inexpensive. Such boxes fulfilled the need for a bookcase.
After a while, these hand-codified books were seen in many loaded peoples homes. Due to this, the volumes were located in closets or on shelves. bookcases sold Nowadays have these cupboards as ancestors, but dont have doors always.
How were the books placed in these shelves?
The old technique was different than what it is Today. They utilized to be piled upon each other on their sides or kept upright with their edges on the outside and the backs facing the wall. these books had a band made from leather or sheepskin as a cover that mentioned the title too. This band was placed on the front edge and therefore the books were placed with their edges facing out.
anybody who liked reading could buy books due to the publishing innovation. Because the titles could be published behind the book, the edges were not facing outward any more.
Such cases were produced of what cloths?
Oak was the fundamental material in producing a barrister bookcase. But if you liked you could order for a bookcase in maple, cherry and pine wood also. You can also go for economical choices such as steel in producing a barrister bookcase. The oldest bookcases are said to exist in England in the Bodleian Library at Oxford University. they were kept in the library in the sixteenth century.
using tiny tablets covered in lattice frames, Chippendale and Sheraton designed lovely bookcases. their bookcases gave the room a classy look.
Todays Barrister Bookcases.
who could have said that a simple bookshelf will develop into being a tough barrister bookshelf after?

Recent statistics show that there is an increased need for safety precautions for teachers from students with violent pasts. The call comes from Jim Quigley, member of the teachers’ union NASUWT (and also a health and safety advisor). His opinion is that because of such students, teachers are not safe. He said that preventive measures should be taken to deal with such pupils, and teachers should be trained to handle such situations.
The statement comes after a student, with a history of violence and aggression, attacked a teacher from Kingswood Community School. Mr. Colin Adams has taught ICT at the school for the past eight years. The accident took place when 51-year-old Adams was going to meet with fellow teachers to decide on disciplinary action for the violent behaviour of the student. Scarcely had he begun to move that the 12-year-old student jumped on his back and tried to strangulate him, as he lay unconscious.
The attack on Mr. Adams could have been avoided had the Head Teacher of the school informed the teachers about a violent incident that had taken place just the previous week, wherein the same student had attacked a library security guard.
Jane McCool from Thompsons Solicitors, who served as Mr. Adams’ advisor, has said that violence in schools is unacceptable and if there are such students then proper safety measures should be taken by the management to ensure the safety of the teachers.
Any company that is involved in work where employees could potentially be injured must make themselves fully aware of the legal implications and training available to avoid the wrath of the HSE and the courts. Protect your company with accredited health and safety courses such as the nebosh distance learning course offered by Workplace Law Training.
Mr. Colin has had to take ill health retirement from Kingswood, as the incident has left him with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A compensation of £275,000 has been awarded to him, while the student was prosecuted and has pleaded guilty to Actual Bodily Harm.

Standard life insurance is the title given to most life insurance policies that are issued with standard rates. Health status along with credit are two factors that determine whether an insured is a standard risk or a sub-standard risk for life insurance. Some life insurance companies will issue policies on people with health problems but will give them a higher table rate than the standard rate. There are companies that exist just for the purpose of insuring the non-standard risk. The premiums are much higher because of the risk.
The majority of the life insurance companies are standard life insurance companies that use the table rating method for adverse risks. When you apply for life insurance your application is sent to an underwriter. The underwriter examines all of the details on the application. It is the underwriter’s job to determine the risk factor and table rate for each applicant. There are several resources available to underwriters about your medical history. One such resource is called the medical insurance bureau. This is an organization that provides medical information to life insurance companies. The MIB will not always have your medical details but the bureau will be able to provide dates and times along with the nature of an illness and injury. Disclosing accurate medical history on you application is critical. Do not omit health history because that is a red flag to an underwriter and may cause your application to be rejected.
It is best to purchase as much life insurance as possible at the youngest possible age. The rates are low and most of the time you will receive standard life insurance rates. Most of the companies online offer standard life insurance rates. Some companies have preferred rates that are even lower than the standard. Standard Life Insurance Companies are common. Most companies will take a trial application on special risk applicants. This is an excellent way to see if you qualify for standard life insurance. You are not obligated to put any money down on a trail application until you are accepted by the insurance company.
